Fieldtrip with Feltherpforum to Knudshoved

The sixth of May I went on a trip to Knudshoved Odde together with some people from Feltherpforum.
But since I have very limited knowledge of the place, I will only write a very brief summary of the trip.
I must admit I spend a lot of time looking at the nature and talking to the others. Photographing became a sideshow and since my photos where shot with a 200mm zoom lens, many of them where deleted when I got home. In addition I did not get any habitat shots; the lens i was using was simply not made for habitats and landscapes. When we reached the location we were greeted at the parking lot by a welcome committee consisting of three melanistic common adders. I did not get any pictures, my mind was tuned in on amphibians even before I arrived, I let them flee before turning on my camera. However, this was an indication that the day would become successful.

The firebellied toads
The tour highlight for me was the firebellied toads! I love bombina! All of the species that can be found on Knudshoved Odde, can be found in my local area as well. The fiebellied toads are the only species I have to drive very far to locate. So they were a great pleasure to observe - and none of us got disappointed: Bombina bombina were found in fairly large quantities all over the place. You could hear their pleasant croaks everywhere. It was a mere joy to walk around on Knudshoved. The amounts of ponds were also quite impressive. It's by no choice the best Bombina bombina site I have personally visited. I must admit that the place has crept up to a top 3 of my favorite locations in Denmark. Next time I visit the place, I will spend more time on my photographing. Especially when the firebellied toads are croaking, possible it is one of the best motives to photograph for an amateur fieldherper as me, I think. For my second trip I will seeks out a single pond instead of walking around the entire peninsula. But I am very glad i had "guides" with me the first time I visited the place.
